The ceremony will take place Friday, April 25 at 2 p.m. in William F. Stone Hall gymnasium.
Former Gov. Gerald L. Baliles will deliver remarks on the occasion, and Dr. Glenn DuBois, chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges, will perform the investiture before Godwin’s inaugural address.
The program also includes musical selections from the PHCC Patriot Players, and various PHCC faculty and staff members. John Christian, a PHCC adjunct faculty member, as Patrick Henry will serve as the grand marshal.
Godwin began her tenure at PHCC on July 1, 2012. Kris Landrum, public relations and marketing manager, said this special event will allow the college to celebrate its history and reaffirm its mission.
“This inauguration is an opportunity for Dr. Godwin to publicly establish her goals for PHCC and reach out to the community,” she said. “We invite everyone in our community to come and celebrate with us.”
Other speakers include J. Nathan Gravely, associate professor of nursing; College Board Chair Eddie White; Dr. John Downey, president of Blue Ridge Community College; Bronte Miller, associate professor of developmental mathematics; Brenell Thomas, coordinator of Workforce Development and Continuing Education programs; Brian Luckett, class of 2012 and current University of Virginia student; PHCC Foundation Chair Gary Collins; Joyce Staples, associate professor of English; PHCC Student Lucas Prillaman; and Dr. Greg Hodges, dean of academic success and college transfer.
Overflow seating will be available in West Hall, Room 127. The ceremony will be streamed live and staff will be available to assist guests, if needed. Reserved parking for delegates and RSVP guests is to the right and in front of Stone Hall.
Media is welcome, and broadcast media will have a special spot halfway up the gym and to the left. A reception in Stone Hall will immediately follow the ceremony.
