Carol Sue Nelson earned an Associate in Science Degree in Education from PHCC in 1976. She continued her education to earn a Bachelor of Art from Averett University and a Master of Education from the University of Virginia. She is a retired teacher, having served for 30 years with Henry County Public Schools. She also taught as an adjunct instructor at PHCC and was a mentor for Blue Ridge Public Library. While employed as a teacher, she was named Teacher of the Month and Master Teacher. She served on numerous committees, including the Textbook Adoption Committee, Effective Schools, the Holistic Scoring Team, the Child Study Committee and the Committee to analyze SOL Data for the Department of Education. She also started a Parent Booster Club and wrote a Curriculum Guide for English Textbook. She has professional affiliations as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Piedmont Community Services Board.
