Betsy Ashbrook graduated from PHCC in 1972 with an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing. She continued her education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College of Virginia, a Master of Science in Nursing from North Carolina University at Greensboro, and a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Virginia. A member of the first graduating nursing class at PHCC, Ashbrook is now Professor of Nursing at the college. She joined the faculty in 1980 as an instructor and has been an active and involved member of the PHCC community ever since. She holds memberships in the Virginia Nurses Association, Virginia League for Nursing, National League for Nursing, Virginia Council of Associate Degree Nursing Educators, Virginia Community College Association, and American Holistic Nurses Association. She has served as president of the Piedmont Free Nursing Clinic and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Southwest Virginia Health Planning Agency.
