Carolyn Byrd earned an Associate in Applied Science in Business Technology: Management from PHCC in 1980. Continuing her education, she was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Ferrum College, a Master of Science in Educational Media from Radford University, and Developmental Education Specialist from Appalachian State University. She has completed additional graduate coursework at Virginia Tech, Hollins University, Radford University, Grambling University, University of North Carolina, and Appalachian State University. Currently Dean of Instructional Support Services at PHCC, Byrd has served in a variety of positions including Interim Vice-President of Academic and Student Development Services, Director of Instructional Support Services, Director of Student Support Services and Learning Lab Supervisor. She served as the Project Director for the Lumina Foundation funded Achieve the Dream initiative, for which the college has received national recognition. In addition to numerous other professional and community organizations, Byrd serves on a Virginia Community College statewide task force focusing on developmental education and is the current President of the Virginia Association for Developmental Education. She serves on the Henry-Martinsville Social Services Board.
