Sabena Carter earned an Associate in Applied Science in Secretarial Science from PHCC in 1983, and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Business Administration from Averett University. She has completed additional graduate coursework at Hollins University and Norfolk State University. Currently Professor of Business Technology, Carter began her career at PHCC as a switchboard operator. While completing her studies, she held progressively more responsible positions at the college, including secretary in the Continuing Education Department, administrative assistant to the Dean of Academic and Student Development Services, and instructor and area coordinator for Continuing Education. She holds numerous certifications, including Microsoft Specialist, Zenger-Miller Frontline Leadership, Online Instructor (COI), IC3 Internal and Computer Computing, and Certified Professional Secretary. She is the recipient of the National Minority Leadership Award, and the PHCC Distinguished Faculty Award, and has been named multiple times to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. She is a member of the Piedmont District Scholarship Committee, the Albert Harris High School National Alumni Scholarship Committee, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund Committee, and the Cancer Society Reach to Recovery.
