The Distinguished Alumni Class of 2012 includes Kris Landrum, who earned an associate in arts and science in general studies in 1990.
Landrum went on to earn her bachelor of arts in English, communications and journalism from Averett University in 1994. She currently serves as the public relations and marketing manager at PHCC, a post she’s held since 1997.
Having joined the college staff in 1985, Landrum has served in a variety of capacities within the public relations office. Prior to taking her current job title, Landrum served as public relations specialist/information officer at PHCC from 1990-97 and a public relations assistant from 1988-90. In her current role at the school, she serves as the chief public relations officer for the college, planning, developing, implementing and evaluating public relations and information programs.
She is currently a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR), College Communicators Association (CCA), and the Public Relations Commission of the Virginia Community Colleges Association.
In the past, Landrum has served on the Council for the Advancement and Support for Education (CASE), the VCCS Chancellor’s Public Relations Task Force and the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, among others. She has also written, edited or taken photographs for Crafted in Virginia and Business Pulse periodicals.
She has received numerous professional honors during her time at PHCC, including a gold medal in the postcard category (2008) and a bronze for the college’s catalog (2008). She has also earned nearly a dozen awards in categories ranging from promotional campaigns to photography, signage, brochures and catalogs from the VCCA Excellence in Communications organization.
