Joyce Staples earned an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from PHCC in 1973. She continued her education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English from Averett University and a Master of Arts from Virginia Tech. She is currently enrolled in the Certificate of Advanced Studies program at Hollins University. Staples in Assistant Professor of English at PHCC. Prior to joining PHCC, she provided 24 years of service in the Henry County Public Schools, during which time she served as Coach for the Literature Academic Team and Forensics Coach. She has been named to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers regularly and received the PHCC Foundation Distinguished Faculty Award in 2006. Staples is very involved in the Girls Scouts, and received the Thanks Badge, the highest award that can be given in Girl Scouting to an adult in recognition of outstanding service to the entire Girl Scout Council. She served as Girl Scout leader, board of directors member, committee chairman, and has attended national and local delegate forums.
