Mable Finney (2012)

The Distinguished Alumni Class of 2012 includes Mable Finney, who received an associate in arts and science in management in 1987.

After graduating from PHCC, Finney went on to earn a bachelor of arts in communications from Mary Baldwin College in 1992 and a master of arts in Christian Education from the Jacksonville Theological Seminary in 1999.

She has 20 years of nonprofit program development and management experience. Currently, Finney is the executive director of FOCUS on Youth/CASA, where she has led the program to national CASA certification, improved its financial record keeping and increased its volunteer retention rate.

Finney also serves as a senior pastor at New Bethel Christian Church in Fieldale. She was the president of the Ministers Fellowship program from 2001-06, where she created policies and procedures for the pastors and ministers of 26 churches. She has also served as an associate pastor and Sunday school superintendent at New Bethel Christian Church and a family life instructor for the Virginia Department of Education.

She has served two terms on the United Way Nonprofit Leaders Network Committee.

Finney earned the NAACP Award for Education in 2009, was named to the Who’s Who in American Women list in 1998, and earned the PHCC Alliance for Excellence in Leadership in 1987. She is currently completing the Nonprofit Management Program through Duke University.
