Associate in Applied Science degrees provide two years of instruction to develop knowledge and skills leading to employment of career advancement in specialized fields. These degrees are not intended as transfer programs.

LENGTH:

PURPOSE:
Individuals who are seeking their first employment or those who wish to qualify for promotion in a present position or to another field, including self-employment, may benefit from this program. Students will learn to use an array of business-oriented computer software, acquire a basic knowledge of networking structure and hardware troubleshooting, and be able to train or instruct others using computer software. The program provides skills to troubleshoot and repair computer software and hardware, maintain help desk support, give instructions and/or training to others, and solve common problems related to computer technology to meet the functional objectives of business. OCCUPATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
Completion of this program may lead to employment or career advancement in any of a wide variety of positions such as PC information center technician, PC software training technician, PC software support technician, PC help desk support technician, PC help desk administrator, PC information center director, or a PC training administrator. Primary tasks and functions graduates will be able to perform include PC analysis, problem solving, and troubleshooting, management of tasks, software operations, facilitation/customer service, and education/training others.
POTENTIAL CERTIFICATION:
A student may elect to take a certification exam. The examinations generally require a testing fee paid by the student. After completion of this program, a student will be academically prepared to take the following examinations:
§ Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) – Access, Excel
§ CompTIA - A+, IT Project+, and Network+
§ Help Desk Institute – Certified Help Desk Analyst
§ IC3 – Certiport, Inc.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Students must meet the general admission requirements established by the college. Students with deficiencies in English or mathematics must complete appropriate developmental studies courses. Students with deficiencies in computer skills or keyboarding will complete additional coursework.
