Benefits

The following is a list of benefit options available to full time employees at PHCC:

HEALTH INSURANCE: The Anthem BlueCross/Blue Shield plan is available with several plan options. The State pays all or most of the health insurance premium depending on the plan chosen. Coverage is available to insure the employee, the employee plus one dependent, or family. FLEXIBLE REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNTS PROGRAM: A Medical Reimbursement Account allows you to set aside part of your pay each pay period on a pre-tax basis to pay for the out-of-pocket medical, dental, and vision care expenses not covered by your health benefits plan. A Dependent Care Reimbursement Account allows you to set aside part of your pay each pay period on a pre-tax basis to pay day care expenses for your child, disabled spouse, elderly parent, or other dependent who is physically or mentally incapable of self-care.

RETIREMENT: Virginia Retirement System; The State currently pays approximately 10% of an employee's salary into the Virginia Retirement System for retirement benefits. There is a five-year vesting requirement. Faculty have a choice of participating in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) or other Optional Retirement Plans (ORP). LIFE INSURANCE: Group life insurance is provided at no cost to the employee. The amount of coverage for natural death equals an employee's annual salary rounded up to the next highest thousand dollars, then doubled. The amount of coverage for accidental death is double the natural death coverage, or four times an employee's salary rounded up to the next highest thousand.

ANNUAL LEAVE, SICK LEAVE, DISABILITY LEAVE: Long-Term Care; Virginia Sickness and Disablility Program Handbook

All full time employees, except faculty, receive 8 hours of annual (vacation) leave per month. The amount of annual leave increases after 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of service. Annual leave accrues up to a limit of 192 to 336 hours based on length of service.

New employees and employees who chose the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program (VSDP) receive varying amounts of sick and family/personal leave at the beginning of each year. The amount of leave ranges from 90 hours to 120 hours based on length of service. Employees who chose to stay in the former sick leave plan receive 10 hours of sick leave per month.

Faculty members under an Optional Retirement Plan and those not participating in VSDP are given 3 personal days at the beginning of each academic year and 4-1/2 sick days each Fall and Spring semester. Those who choose participation in the Virginia Retirement System receive sick and family/personal leave at the beginning of each year under the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program (VSDP) ranging from 90 hours to 120 hours based on years of service.

VSDP provides eligible employees supplemental or replacement income during periods of partial or total disability on a short-term and/or long-term basis.

HOLIDAYS: The Commonwealth of Virginia provides a total of 12 holidays, including: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Lee-Jackson Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, The day after Thanksgiving Day, Martin Luther King Day, Labor Day, George Washington Day, Columbus Day, Christmas Day

Some of these holidays are observed at different times depending on the college's schedule.

Employees are also eligible for a variety of optional coverages paid by the employee.
