PHCC offers Kids' College each summer. Our goal is to provide unique learning opportunities to children grades 6-8 (unless otherwise noted). A variety of programs are offered to inspire creativity and give kids an opportunity to explore career opportunities.

NCI - Math in Everyday Life
A licensed middle school math teacher will demonstrate how math is used and required in our daily life. The camp will be very hands-on to create projects and spend time in recreational and physical activities. This camp will include a field trip to Philpott Dam, a stained glass activity, cooking, and a visit and activity in the FAB Lab. Instructor: Joanna Keyser

Woodshop Camp - NEW!
Do you love to build and create? NEW this year, we are opening our Woodworking and Woodturning studios to summer campers! Learn to use tools safely as you make projects like wooden folding chairs, boxes, and turned wooden forms (like a bowl or vase) on a lathe.

Minecraft Makers Camp- NEW!

Design your world in Minecraft and 3d print, laser cut and build your characters out in real life using various Fabrication Lab equipment including laser cutters, 3D printers, and more to manufacture their ideas.

We Make! Engineering for Girls- NEW!

The WE MAKE! Summer camp is an exploratory camp that brings science, engineering and math together with art and creativity. Girls will work together to explore the creative process and craft items that have both form and function. They will learn new computer tools to help make their creative ideas into actual designs and then use the Martinsville Fab Lab to build a final product. They will explore the science of circuits and learn how to make their creations come to life with light.

Cooking Around the World - NEW!
Take your taste buds on a trip around the world! Learn about the cuisine of a different country every day and make delicious meals like pasta from scratch, crepes (thin French pancakes), and more.

Artist Adventures
Spark your creativity! We will focus on a different artistic medium each day and create projects in drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and sculpture, and even animal fibers!

NCI - Engineering for Boys- NEW!
Seventh-grade boys are invited to come and learn that armed with an understanding of math and science, a bit of engineering know-how, and boundless creativity, nothing is impossible. During this week, boys will work together to explore the engineering design process and learn tools to take these ideas beyond the abstract into real life with the use of the Martinsville Fab Lab. You will work with expert engineering faculty members from Virginia State University and NCI's Academy for Engineering and Technology to build a final product that you will have the opportunity to share with your community.

Fab Lab Innovation Camp

During this four-day camp, students will learn to conceptualize, design, and prototype ideas for new products. Students will use various Fabrication Lab equipment including laser cutters, 3D printers, and more to manufacture their ideas. Students will design and produce a variety of projects to take home, like t-shirts, stickers, and 3D-printed objects.

Quilting Camp - NEW!
Learn the basics of using a sewing machine and hand-sewing as you create a mini-quilt in your favorite colors! No experience necessary. The materials fee is payable directly to instructor and covers fabric, batting, thread and tools.

Photography Camp
 Are you addicted to Instagram? Obsessed with selfies? Take your digital photo skills to the next level with lessons from a certified professional photographer as you walk along the scenic uptown streets and trails of Martinsville. Students will learn to use a digital camera and will be introduced to Adobe Photoshop for editing and creating a photo collage.

Mountain Music Camp- NEW!
 Learn about the traditional music of Virginia, and write and play your own songs! Singer and multitalented musician Emily Blankenship-Tucker will introduce campers to different bluegrass and folk instruments, dances, ballads, and oral traditions. No experience or instrument necessary - participants will build their own simple dulcimer and play along!
